Wednesday: Links with hype

Story of the day

Several non-BCS running backs to watch [Rivals.com]

Rivals came up with a list of the top non-BCS running backs in the country, and if you look purely at the numbers, we think it is obvious which one is best.
The former Fiesta Bowl hero leads all active running backs in career rushing yards (3,418) and tops all active players in rushing touchdowns (45).
Ian Johnson stands out from the rest of the pack on his career totals alone, but the story focused on Southern Miss running back Damion Fletcher, who sounds like he'll be a handful when the Broncos visit Hattiesburg. In all, four of BSU's 2008 opponents made the list, including Deonte Jackson (Idaho), Luke Lippincott (Nevada), and Ryan Matthews (Fresno State).

Let's hope our run defense really has gotten better.

Non-Saturday games sure are annoying [FOX Sports.com]
Boise State fans hardly even notice any more.

I LOVE having college football on nearly every day of the week. Here's why (beyond just that I love football): We get to see a ton of teams we'd normally never get to see. Like that Rutgers v. Louisville game. How do you think the country got introduced to Boise State? It's great to see smaller teams from every corner of the country.

See, on Saturdays, there are only so many hours and only so many TV channels. And all of them are dominated by the big boys. ESPN or ABC is not going to select a BSU v. Fresno State over a Georgia v. LSU. Just not gonna happen. For everyone else to get on TV, you gotta play some other time.

If that means a team has a couple of weekday games, so be it.

However, my positive feelings don't extend to the Sunday games though. College games, especially with smaller schools, just can't compete for eyeballs against the NFL.

That being said, I do wanna see games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. When I flip to ESPN on a random Tuesday night and there is no game, I get sad.

    Fill up that schedule!

  2. I hear you, JH. The coverage for small-time schools can't be beat, and Boise State definitely owes some of its notoriety to its wonky schedule.

As long as the games don't interfere with high school football (Friday nights) and the NFL (Sundays and Mondays), let the college kids play!
