Georgia Tech QB transferring to LaTech

Former Boise State reneger Taylor Bennett will be transferring from Georgia Tech to Louisiana Tech this season, and he will be eligible to start at quarterback for the Bulldogs.

Normally, a student-athlete transferring from one Division I-A program to another would have to sit out a year, but Louisiana Tech has a graduate-school major that Georgia Tech does not, so the NCAA approved Bennett's eligibility request on academic grounds.

Bennett once gave Boise State a verbal commitment, but he chose instead to play at Georgia Tech. In addition to his wanting a graduate degree, he also did not want anything to do with the spread option offense that new coach Paul Johnson was introducing. Apparently, Bennett prefers the staid, three-and-out offense of Louisiana Tech.

Broncos eye QB for next year's class

Taysom Hill (Scout.com)
Several media outlets are reporting that Boise State has offered junior QB Taysom Hill from Highland High School (Pocatello, Idaho) a scholarship.

A rising senior-to-be, Hill received an offer from Boise State, which is something in and of itself because the Broncos are notorious for not making as many early offers as other programs.
Hill has already received scholarship offers from Idaho State, Stanford, and Arizona, and he has visits set up to several other big schools. No word yet on whether or not the University of Idaho knows he exists.

An irrelevant Vandal? That seems about right

The University of Idaho can't even win when their players get drafted.

The St. Louis Rams made Vandal LB David Vobora the last pick of the NFL Draft, awarding him the title of Mr. Irrelevant. You know what they say, "Once irrelevant, always irrelevant."

Tharp to the Panthers

Former BSU QB Taylor Tharp has signed with the Carolina Panthers. Take that, Vinny Testaverde!

Tharp will be the fourth quarterback on the Panthers’ roster, behind veteran Jake Delhomme, former Oregon State quarterback Matt Moore and former Northwestern quarterback Brett Basanez.
With the fragility of Delhomme, Tharp stands a good chance to be a part of the team sometime this fall, and he may already be better than the last year's Carolina back-up, David Carr.

Bold predictions for the week ahead

We sure did have a fun weekend with the NFL Draft. They should do this more often. Ryan Clady went No. 12 overall, Orlando Scandrick became a Cowboy, and the ESPN crew broke the record for most uncomfortable moments in a broadcast. The only thing missing was the Lions drafting a receiver.

Here is what we see happening in the next few days.

  • Clady's new contract with the Denver Broncos will include performance incentives for touchdown catches and sweet end zone celebrations.
  • Once he sees Cowboy headquarters in Dallas, Scandrick will change his MySpace mood to "off the chain."
  • After no wide receivers were drafted in the first round, Vinny Perretta will have serious regrets about not turning pro after his junior year.
