Life Coach: Winco sightings and family visits
The Life Coach believes that there are no stupid questions, just stupid Vandal fans who ask questions. His purpose is to shepherd Bronco Nation to the calm waters of illumination, guiding them through their perfunctory problems with grace, flair, and competent advice. Got a question for the Life Coach? Email him at OneBroncoNationUnderGod@gmail.com.
Dear Life Coach,
Which is more awesome: seeing Titus Young at WinCo or seeing my family at Thanksgiving?
Starstruck in Star
I would say that it would be seeing Titus Young at WinCo. My man Titus is from Los Angeles. I am not sure if he is from the Hollywood part of L.A. or from the other parts, but I am going to doubt that he has ever seen a WinCo before. So I think that it is probably as exciting for him as it is for you.
But it all depends on the time. I mean, if it is 3:30 in the afternoon and you see him shopping in WinCo for some dorm food – that's one thing. I might actually rather see my family at Thanksgiving than see that. But if it is like 3:30 in the morning the night after a game and you see him limping into WinCo because he is having a post-game craving of Doritos – that is something altogether different. I would gladly spend Thanksgiving cold and alone if I could see that.
Especially if Zabransky or K.C. Adams was in the car waiting for him.
Quick question, Life Coach,
Where does the BCS rank on the spectrum of tyrannical crimes against humanity? Before apartheid or after?
Insensitive in Idaho City
For the record, I do not ever want to put the BCS ranking being ANYWHERE NEAR apartheid or any other crimes against humanity. As Americans, we need to figure out how to separate sports from reality. During Apartheid people were brutally marginalized, unfairly imprisoned, and sometimes killed – and this took place over decades. During BCS, ummm, we sometimes don't get a clear cut college football champion.
So...
Next question please.
Hey, Life Coach,
I recently read on OBNUG that Boise State is getting 100-to-1 odds to win the national title. Should I jump on that?
Sincerely, Charles Barkley
Charles, if you jumped on the Boise State bandwagon, you would smoosh it. Because you are so big! (hahhahahahahaha, hehehheee…)
All joking aside, Charles, you should definitely wager as much money as you can on the Broncos. Even though I can guarantee that you do not know where to locate Boise on a map, you should just trust us. Trust us. Trust the WAC. Trust your gambling instincts. Look where they have gotten you so far.
Also, Charles, you should call your friend D-Wade and have him bet BSU, too… and then you should make a commercial out of it.

Over the past several years, the word "underrated" has rarely been used when referring to the Broncos. "Dominant," yes. "Underrated," no. But maybe being underrated isn't all that bad.
The Broncos have owned the Western Athletic Conference since joining the league, posting a 46-2 ledger against their W.A.C. coevals. Boise State is nigh-invincible on the blue turf, where they host Hawaii (in the Warriors’ post-deal-with-the-devil season) and the Golden State Bulldogs in Friday night showdowns.Plus, this guy even has an optimistic view of the Oregon game.
This is a good year for the Broncos to get Oregon early. The Ducks open with a conference rival whose embattled coach has guaranteed a victory and travel to Purdue the week before hosting Boise State. That’s a pretty rough opening run for a team that lost Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart. In an offseason where the consensus seems to be shifting away from Boise State's winning tradition, it is refreshing to see that someone still believes. Although, we do prefer the word "dominant."
Of course, then the author had to go and ruin things by bringing up the Georgia game again.

The face of Boise State's football program
ESPN began a poll in April to decide the face of every college football program in the country. We thought it might be fun to check in to see how things are going.
Boise State has received 66 suggestions so far, and the blue turf and the Fiesta Bowl seem to be the favorites. Of course, there are plenty of other choices, too.
sroake1This one must have been posted in 2004.
dan hawkins
drays2004rZabransky is a winner, except in most big games, in the state of Georgia, and in the Humanitarian Bowl.
The face of the program is clearly Zabransky. He typifies what the Broncos are all about...A team that gets disrespected but constantly finds a way to get the job done in convincing fashion. He's just a winner.
2244curtMight the last part of this be a nomination for Gene Bleymaier?
Gimmick plays and a schedule filled with cupcakes every year.
The Vandals are having a much more difficult time coming up with a face of the program, as referenced by the tens of people weighing in at ESPN.com. So far the choices appear to be Dennis Erickson, Mark Schlereth, and the great John Friesz. We just found reason #437 not to be a Vandal fan.

Wednesday: Links with contentment
The excitement over one of Boise State's most anticipated games of the season is apparently quite relative. When the Broncos visit the Ducks this September, only the local crowds will be watching.
The Pac-10's TV partners - ABC/ESPN, Fox Sports Net and Versus - passed on the Sept. 20 game when they finalized their selections Monday.
We assume the choice was made considering the possibly damaging combination of green, yellow, orange, and blue on TV sets nationwide. We also assume it has nothing to do with the Broncos laying a traditional egg against BCS competition on the road.
The game will air locally on KTVB and will be covered by the new Mark Johnson-led broadcast team.
Said KTVB sports director David Augusto: "It looks like it's ours to do."
The Oregon game would give KTVB the rights to seven games this season - the first three games of the season and four straight games in November.
The more Mark Johnson, the better. We think.

Exposed secrets of Utah State attendance
With the news that New Mexico State is in trouble for poor attendance figures, one might rationally wonder why the same isn't true of football black hole Utah State. As it turns out, some Aggies are more unethical than others.
With the way USU counts every student on campus as someone who has purchased a ticket, the Aggies have found a sneaky way to avoid trouble from the NCAA by living up to ‘attendance standards.’If only they put as much effort into playing their games...
Thank goodness we root for a team whose waiting list alone exceeds NCAA attendance requirements.

Tuesday: Links with toughness
Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier is somewhat of a lightning rod for discussion among Bronco Nation. Some feel he could be doing a better job scheduling teams not named Idaho State, and others feel that he deserves credit for bringing the program to where it is today.
His peers fall into the latter group. Bleymaier will receive an award for being the best AD in the country...or region...or county. We're not sure exactly.
Gene Bleymaier will be honored at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) 43rd annual convention when he is named the 2007-08 AstroTurf Athletics Director of the Year “Football Bowl Subdivision West” Region winner.
