WIR: Spring ends, Public Enemy nears

Week in Review (WIR) has loads of loathing for all the candidates on OBNUG's Public Enemy #1 list, which has made choosing between the six candidates extremely difficult. Still, debating the villains has provided a good dose of relief for the long, football-less summer ahead. Maybe we'll just drag this thing on until August.

Here is the best from the last week.

Have a great weekend, Bronco fans. We'll see you on Monday for some NFL draft talk.

Augusto out; competency in

Changes just keep coming from Boise State media coverage.

The latest casualty in the war of Bronco broadcasts is play-by-play man David Augusto, who had called Bronco football games for the past three seasons. He will be replaced by Mark Johnson, a sports reporter turned news reporter with KTVB. Johnson called Bronco football games in 1987 and 1988.

But you can't get rid of Augusto that easily!

Augusto will remain on the broadcasts as a sideline reporter.
Although, he will be replaced for non-conference games by the Carl's Jr. star mascot.

Bronco radio job up for grabs

With the apparent ousting of Paul J. Schneider as voice of the Broncos, Boise State fans will have to get used to a new announcing team this season. Peak Broadcasting, the new owner of the radio rights to Bronco football, has yet to decide on who the play-by-play team will be for the 2008 broadcasts, so we feel an obligation to steer them in the right direction. Here is a short list of potential candidates:

  • David Augusto and David Augusto. With sideline reporting from David Augusto.
  • Caves and Prater. No, thank you.
  • Wayne Dzubak and Father Time. We figure they hang out a lot together.
  • Larry Gebert and Scott Dorval. Everyone loves a good weather metaphor.
  • Dave Tester and Claudia Weathermon. Let's hope they don't fight over air time.
  • A Magic 93.1 DJ and random callers. Bronco games would be played over a backdrop of Rhianna music.
  • The Power Ball and the Verizon Wireless phone. Perhaps a three-man booth with the Carl's Jr. star?
  • Brian Murphy and a hungry lion. This partnership might not last long.
  • OBNUG. We would definitely make the broadcasts entertaining.

Completely inappropriate April Fool's jokes

In honor of April Fool's Day, we've compiled a list of some of the worst possible April Fool's jokes you could make to a Boise State fan. Please don't get any ideas.

  • Oregon pulled out of the schedule, and Bleymaier got Weber State to take their spot.
  • Brian Murphy would like to write your autobiography.
  • Marty Tadman was just a figment of your imagination.
  • Fresno State is leaving the WAC to be replaced by Cole Valley Christian High School.
  • Nick Lomax is the 2008 starting quarterback.
  • Head coach Chris Peterson has been traded to Utah State for Brent Guy, a copy of Tony Dungy's book Quiet Strength, and the Mormon salvation of the 2008 Boise State roster.
  • The WAC is folding due to apathy.
  • David Augusto's one-on-one interview with David Augusto will air in a continuous loop on KTVB tonight from 7:00 to 10:00.
  • You've just won Idaho Vandal season tickets.

Copyright scandal? Eh, whatever

Kudos to KTVB Channel 7 and broncocountry.com for unearthing this gem of a story: it appears that someone else is using the Broncos logo!

A Canadian football club adopted a logo and color scheme – leading many to notice the similarity to Boise State’s athletics logo.

The Kamloops Broncos of British Columbia compete in the Canadian Junior Football League – and have a logo that mirrors that of the Boise State Broncos. Fans at BroncoCountry.com first noticed the similarity.

"It's interestingly similar to ours,” Boise State Marketing and Promotions director Brad Larrondo said.

David Augusto is Stone Phillips!

But before we get all 48 Hours Mystery on this story, let's keep in mind that the Kamloops Broncos are a minor league Canadian football team that went 1-9 last year. And they are already planning on changing their logo for the 2008 season.

Thank goodness we didn't have to break out the Scooby-doo Mystery Machine van for this one.
