OBNUG's Public Enemy #1

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Public Enemy

Everyone needs someone to hate. Bush Hamdan hates modern media. The University of Idaho hates success. Orlando Scandrick hates wearing shirts.

But what gets OBNUG's goat? Nothing, really. We are a pretty laid-back group of BSU bi-partisans. And we don't want to be. We want to have an enemy, someone we rip into on a daily basis. Sure, we poke fun at Utah State, but it's not the same. We have some serious angst and no one to direct it at.

Well, all that is about to change.

Over the next few weeks, we will be picking a villian for this website by profiling several loathsome individuals. Here are the candidates:

  1. Dan Hawkins
  2. Colin Kaepernick
  3. Sean Renfree
  4. Rob Akey
  5. Mike Prater
Let the search for OBNUG's Public Enemy #1 begin!

  1. What? No Hal Mumme? Now that June Jones is gone there are really only three coaches in the WAC left to reallly loathe. (in this order) "Snotrag" Mumme, Robb "dude from Tremors" Akey and "the 'lil general" Chris Ault.

  2. I think you wrote your last blog on Nevada's qb a little prematurely.

This weekends scrimmage Kaepernick accounted for 4 scores including 3 TD passes and 1 TD run.

What's funny is that the #1 villian (Hawkins) was the guy recruiting the #2 villian (Kaepernick) back in the day. Could have been a regular Legion of Doom up in Idaho had that worked out.

  3. How could he have written the last blog on Kaepernick prematurely? Did he get the stats wrong? Kaepernick will be a decent QB, but he will not do to the Broncos this year what he did last year and will always be handcuffed by the idiotic playcalling of the little General.

  4. You're right, Drew. We just report the facts here (with a little biased commentary). Glad to hear he did better in the 2nd scrimmage, packfan7. I guess there was nowhere to go but up, right?

  5. "This will just further serve to promote the theory that Kaepernick is not a quarterback, but rather a running back who happens to take snaps."

I guess that might be what I was talking about with "premature". I don't recall too many RB's throwing for three TD's, even in a scrimmage setting.

"Lippincott caused the Broncos trouble last year, and it looks like he will be a handful again"

At least you got that part right.

You guys shouldn't have let Hawkins get away. He's already turning Colorado around. I would be just a tiny bit nervous if I were a Bronco fan and knowing that his recruit classes are almost gone. You guys wouldn't have lost a player like Thad Brown to us before.

  6. We didn't need Kaepernick and we didn't need Brown. No sour grapes about it.

Lippencott is a good RB, but don't think I would replace any one of our TBs with him. He is a hard-nosed runner and seems to dive forward for yardage rather than trying to stay up and be a homerun threat. I see Lippencott's YPC being solid throughout his career because of his aforementioned diving...but I don't think he will ever be as good as Johnson or as angry as Doug Martin.

  7. packfan, you guys are really looking forward to playing us, aren't you? did last year's OT game increase the intensity in the rivalry?

  8. I really think the fans of Nevada football really are looking forward to the game this year. I think two years ago we thought we were pretty good and had a shot at knocking you off in Reno and you just flat out embarassed us on your way to the BCS.

Then last year I don't think much was expected with starting a new QB and being 2-3 at the time and then the game was just so exciting and competitive. But being on the losing end of that just leaves us with that unsatisfying feeling. So close you could taste it. Even the final tackle of the game was a play that was in itself a definition of that game and how we felt. So close but not enough.

It's like the NFL when you have that team that beats you in the playoffs 3 or 4 years in a row and you know you have to get over that hump before you can go to the big show.

As far as rivalry...I guess you could argue that lately it hasn't been much of one. But if you look at the series long term, I do think games like that do make the rivalry all the more special.

    Instant classic indeed.

  9. Hey packfan, are you affiliated or aware of any Nevada blogs? If so, drop us an email. We're trying compose a list of other WAC blogs.

This is the only "blog" that I know about and it doesn't seem to get much action, but it isn't updated as often as this one is either.
