Ian for Heisman: CBS starts the hype

The Heisman race has begun for BSU RB Ian Johnson. CBS Sportsline's Dennis Dodd created a preseason ranking of Heisman candidates, and Johnson made the cut at number 20.

Johnson is the only WAC player to make the list, and he is one of only three players from non-BCS-conference schools to crack the top 20. We assume this means that Dodd does not place much credence in Utah State TE Rob Myers' Heisman campaign.

  1. IJ has more Heisman cred than the kid from App. State or the dude from BYU...what're they smoking. Plus, having Noel Devine and Joe Mcknight on there is presumptious at best, both will be true sophs and surely have big upsides, but haven't done anything amazing yet. IJ's 2006 season should be enough to at least get him in the top 12.

  2. I think Johnson lost all of his momentum after his effort last year. I'm actually rather surprised that he made the list, but I agree that he will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

  3. I hope we catch either or both of Texas Tech and Missouri asleep and knock them off. That's four Heisman candidates we face by the end of week 3.

I'ld love to see all four drop off and have either CK or LL move into the bottom portion of that list.

  4. By the end of week three, we'll have faced Idaho State and Bowling Green. That's 0 Heisman candidates for us.
