ESPN Widget entertaing to say the least

I've added this handy little ESPN widget to my iGoogle homepage that is sure to keep me up to date on all of Boise State's greatest storylines--through the eyes of ESPN at least. First of all, as you can see they've yet to remove the Hawaii Bowl score. Thanks a lot. Secondly, the first link under team news leads to Schlabach's top 25 for next year that has no reference to Boise State but does have Fresno State at number 25, which is typical of their preseason overratedness. I'm used to it by now.

The real gem that this widget brings is the second link under Team News: "WAC signing day conversation." When I click on the link, I'm greeted with a wonderful invitation to join in the WAC signing day conversation. Of all 19 comments that were received, here are some of my favorites (complete with pictures because, well, profile pictures for commenters are a favorite of mine):

johnnyhurl seems to be taking heart in numbers. Whenever you are just happy that your school was able to give away all their scholarships, well that can't be very good. And if you guessed that he's a Hawaii fan by the fact that he is not wearing a shirt, you'd be correct.

I'm glad Moose has relieved me of my duty to sit by my phone waiting for Mr. Hansen to call. The all caps on EAST CAROLINA was a nice touch also. I choose to believe he got worked up enough that he was really yelling out loud as he typed that.

Happy Ash Wednesday...er...I mean, Signing Day!

It's finally here. Signing Day has arrived. Ash Wednesday just so happens to fall on this same day since Easter is in March this year (seriously, isn't Easter like Thanksgiving where it is always in April? I'm still a little unsure and feel like it's all an elaborate hoax. Well not as elaborate as say, this.)

So, today a bunch of high schoolers will be trotted out in front of their local media to sign a totally unnecessary contract, well that is unless you are the number one rated quarterback and believe in postponing your decision to hoard as much attention as possible. I say they spice things up since it's Ash Wednesday, throw some ashes on these kids' heads, and let them contemplate the fact that they've just committed a year of their life to playing football for their chosen institution, even if their coach decides to jump ship.

In the spirit of that, I want to be the first to congratulate all the new recruits of Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, and our favorite here, Dan Hawkins! May you somehow sleep easy knowing your coach is just a huge paycheck or bad season away from leaving you in the dust.

Keep checking back here today, Bronco fans. We'll be bringing you some facts and interesting tidbits on at least some of the recruits being announced today. I doubt you'll find anything quite like it anywhere else.

Oh, and Sean Renfree...just because David Cutcliffe coached Peyton at UT and Eli at Ole Miss doesn't mean he's going to do the same with you at Duke. I mean, it's freaking Duke.

Signing Day in Boise

Wednesday, February 6th, is signing day, and the Big Easy Concert House in Boise will be hosting the BSU selections. Doors open at noon, which means OBNUG will be camping out at 8:00am. I'm going to go ahead and set the over/under on drunk people starting the "Boise!"..."State!" cheer at 7.5.
